Wright City sophomore Caelyn Hanff is in position to compete for a state title.
Hanff won her first two matches of the Missouri Class 1 state wrestling tournament Wednesday to advance to the state semifinals in the 170-pound weight class. Hanff pinned Kenlee Fish of Plattsburg in her opening match. She pinned Blaiklee Cagle of Reeds Spring in the quarterfinals. Hanff is scheduled to square off against Hailey Romero of Kearney Thursday in the championship semifinals.
Kali Jensen won her final two matches of the day to advance to the second day of the tournament. After dropping her opening match to Louzella Graham of Seneca, Jensen pinned Kentli Whitaker of South Harrison and Delaney Rapp of Windsor Imperial in her first two wrestleback matches. She is scheduled to face Jenna Keller of Brookfield in the third round wrestlebacks Thursday.
Wright City senior David Riggs also won his final two matches to advance to the second day of the Class 2 boys wrestling tournament. After falling in his opening match against Troy Gustin of Pleasant Hill, Riggs earned wins over Dominic Ransom of Sullivan and Jackson Snider of Logan-Rogersville. Riggs is scheduled to face Grant VanHorn of Mexico in the third round wrestlebacks.
Ella Greenwell Washburn won a match in her first state appearance for the Lady Wildcats. The sophomore pinned Shauna Wilkson of Lafayette County in her first round wrestleback match. She fell to Brooklyn Gooding of Macon in her second round wrestleback match.
Warrenton wrestler Allison Vacek competed at the state tournament. The freshman lost both of her matches.
