Three Warrenton Players Named All-GAC

Three members of the Warrenton soccer team were recognized for their efforts by being selected to the GAC North All-Conference teams. “The three that got honored really deserved it this year,” said Coach David Evans. “St. Charles West and St. Charles had beaten us, so it was tough to compete against some of their girls, but we had some girls that really set themselves apart.” Senior Emily Craven earned first-team honors after leading the Warriors in scoring with 47 points. She netted 21 goals and added five assists. She was a unanimous selection, catching the attention of conference coaches. “It comes down to her competitiveness,” said Evans. “She’s comparable to the boys on that level. She always wants the ball and is playing aggressive to win. She’s quick and makes great touches on the ball.” Senior Rachel Moritz, a second-team midfielder, scored 14 points, connecting on five goals and dishing out a pair of assists. She and Craven provided a dangerous scoring combination for the Warriors, playing at an elevated level, according to Evans. “Like Emily, Rachel has a lot of soccer background, and you can see that in their performance,” said Evans. “Immediately into the season they were putting together give and goes. They both know soccer well enough they were able to see those plays develop.” Junior Sam Swoboda also garnered second-team honors as a midfielder. She was responsible for six points, scoring three goals. “Her No. 1 skill set is her natural speed,” said Evans. “She uses that to her ability. She has developed her breakaway speed and will get right on her opponent and won’t let them get around her. She’s not afraid to be physical and get in there and play a hard-nosed game."
