Three grapplers place second at FZE Invite

Three area wrestlers took home second place finishes at the Ft. Zumwalt East Invitational last week. 

Wright City wrestlers Elizabeth Riggs and Sadie Sehnert and Warrenton wrestler Allison Vacek each took home second place finishes in their weight class. All three wrestlers won their first three matches of the tournament before dropping their championship match. 

Riggs placed second in the 125-pound weight class. Riggs won all three of her matches by fall to advance to the championship match. She beat Mira Richardson of Eureka in her semifinal match. Riggs suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Cassidy Benwell of Holt in the championship match. 

Sehnert also won her first three matches by fall. She beat Trinity Butler of Festus in 1:39 in the semifinal match. She fell to Taylor Dawson of Collinsville in the 135-pound championship match. 

Vacek placed second in the 155-pound weight class. She won her first two matches by fall to advance to the semifinal round. She beat Akayla Hunt of Marquette on a 15-2 major decision in the semifinals before falling to Maria Ignatova of Ft. Zumwalt West in the championship match. 

Warrenton freshman Alexis Ruff registered a third place finish in the 115-pound weight class. Ruff won her first three matches to advance to the semifinals. She dropped a 5-3 decision on a sudden victory in overtime for Jailyn Ebert of Ft. Zumwalt North. Ruff placed third after Sarah Bergtholdt of Troy Buchanan medically forfeited the match. 

Dakota Lohrmann won four of her five matches in the 120-pound weight class. She won all three of her matches in the consolation bracket by fall to win one of the two consolation brackets in her weight class. Natalie Sibert dropped a pair of matches in the 125-pound weight class. 

Four Wright City wrestlers took home sixth place finishes at the tournament. Samantha Yates earned three wins in six matches to place sixth in the 110-pound weight class. She earned all three of her wins by fall. Hailey Henson, Lauren Ritter and Sara Sehnert each won two matches and placed sixth in their respective weight classes. Kailin Hawn also won a pair of matches in the 155-pound weight class. Kali Jensen won one of her two matches before medical forfeiting her final two matches. She placed eighth in the 120-pound weight class. Ella Greenwell also won one match.

Wright City finished the tournament with 119 points and placed fourth. Warrenton finished tied for 17th with 57 points.
