St. Charles – The riverbank at the Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center will be the finish line for Rivermiles’ MR 340, an endurance race traversing the Missouri River for 340 miles across the state of Missouri. Competitors in individual, tandem or group canoes and kayaks begin in Kansas City and cross the finish line in St. Charles at the Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center.700 people will be paddling 400 canoes and kayaks with over 1,000 crew people supporting them from around the country and other nations will begin the race on Tuesday, July 8 and the top contenders will begin to arrive at the museum after 36-40 hours. The Discovery Expedition of St. Charles will host a celebratory BBQ at the museum from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm CST on both Thursday and Friday, July 10-11.“The BBQ is open to the general public, paddlers completing the grueling race, support crews, and onlookers encouraging the racers,” said Bill Brecht, Executive Director for the Museum.“The museum and boathouse are open to anyone who would like to refuel, cheer on the paddlers, or visit our indoor and outdoor exhibits.”Free museum admission on July 9, 10 & 11 is sponsored by Missouri American Water. The majority of the participants will cross the finish line at the museum’s landing on Friday, July 11. All entries must complete the race under 88 hours.
