The accolades just keep coming for Warrenton junior wrestler Zayden Teson and his teammates.

After winning the Class 3 state championship at 132 pounds just weeks ago, the GAC Conference coaches bestowed an additional honor on the junior, naming him the conference’s Wrestler of the Year.

“This feels awesome and I love that all my hard work is paying off,” Teson said. “I’ve sacrificed a lot this year and I love to see it pay off.”

Teson (47-1) won the title by a 15-5 major decision over Pacific’s Brock Webb.

He was also one of six boys to earn first-team all-conference. Joining him are senior Nathan Donovan (25-7 record at 113 pounds), sophomore Colton Tinker (37-9 at 120), senior Max Teson (38-5 at 157), senior Jamarion Fulton (28-11 at 165), and senior Korben Johnson (41-10 at 190).

First-team selections for the girls were sophomore Vivia Grooms (33-15 at 120) and junior Alexis Ruff (125).

Additionally, sophomore Jude Lohrmann (144), junior Dylan Duncan (175) and sophomore Daniel McChristy (285) made the second team for the boys, while senior Meredith Donovsn (105), sophomore Melanie Guerrero (130), senior Dakota Lohrmann (135) and senior Alli Vacek (155) made the All-GAC North second team.

Coach Clayton Olsson, who himself was named conference Coach of the Year, said that recognition from coaches outside the program clearly validates the wrestlers’ efforts.

“I'm proud of all the athletes who received first and second-team nominations,” Olsson said. “It is nice for these wrestlers to see that all the hard work they put in throughout the off-season and in-season is paying off and being recognized by other coaches in the conference. It's always nice for athletes to receive praise from their own coaches, but when coaches from other schools are recognizing their ability, it means a lot to them.”
