Teens charged with stealing two vehicles from same victim

Two Warren County teens stole two different vehicles from the same victim last week, authorities allege.Jacob M. Nelson, 17, Wright City, and Devin Brewer, 18, Warrenton, are charged in Warren County Circuit Court with first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in the case.Nelson also is charged with felony resisting arrest. His bond was set at $50,000, while bond for Brewer was set at $45,000.The charges stem from an incident Tuesday, Oct. 11, when Warren County deputies began investigation the crash of a van that was left along the side of Highway U.The abandoned van belonged to David Click, 24 Hawthorn Hills Drive, according to a probable cause statement filed in court.When an officer went to question Click, the man was unaware of the theft, and discovered that his van and another vehicle, a 2011 Acura RDX, were missing.Authorities said that someone entered the home and took keys to both vehicles which had been on a dining room table. The keys were visible through the front door, the statement noted.Information about the thefts was dispatched, and another office spotted the Acura at a gas station in Wright City. The officer then questioned Brewer and Nelson who were in the vehicle, and took them into custody.Brewer admitted he and Nelson took the van from Click’s home and started driving around in it. Later, they returned to the residence and took the Acura, police said.Brewer, according to the probable cause statement, acknowledged that he was driving when he wrecked the van on Highway U. He told police that both he and Nelson drove both vehicles at various times.Police said during the arrest, Nelson attempted to flee and then was involved in a physical altercation with the arresting officer who caught him.Nelson is on five years’ probation in a prior felony case. Nelson pleaded guilty in September 2016 to second-degree burglary, receiving stolen property and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in two separate felony cases, according to court records.A judge suspended sentencing and placed him on five years’ supervised probation in those cases, records show.Crime
