Record Managing EditorThe 2015 tax rate in Truesdale is going up slightly and is expected to generate about $11,000 more compared to last year.Aldermen at the Aug. 26 meeting unanimously adopted an ordinance setting the 2015 levy at 81.31 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.A public hearing was held earlier in the evening. No one from the public was in attendance.Last year’s tax rate was 80.12 cents. It generated $172,282 in revenue. The amount of funds from tax revenues budgeted for this year is $183,822.Truesdale’s assessed valuation went up to $22,607,515 compared to $21,510,950 in 2014. Real estate valuations increased to $11,502,032 from $11,154,522, while personal property climbed to $11,105,483 from $10,356,428.In other news• Officials announced the city will receive a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to cover 45 percent of the engineering cost for a water line project. The city is considering extending the water line on Truesdale Avenue behind Gastorf Chevrolet. The board voted 4-0 to enter into an agreement with Lewis-Bade, Inc., and DNR for the project.• Officials were reminded about the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Take-Back Day on Sept. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at city hall. The public is invited to get rid of unwanted or expired prescription medication. Truesdale has a permanent drug collection box, which looks much like one used by the post office, located in the lobby of city hall. Anyone can come in and drop off prescription medications as long as city hall is open. It is confidential and no questions are asked.• The board discussed having voters decide a use tax measure in a future election, likely in April 2016. City officials are working with several local cities to finalize the ballot issue and plan to meet at the first of the year. The deadline to place a measure on the April ballot is Jan. 26, 2016.If approved, the use tax would be applied whenever a sales tax is not, officials said.• The board agreed to pay $21,975 for two invoices related to the project to construct an additional bay to the salt shed. The contractor is Eckelkamp Trucking and Excavating.Truesdale
