A 10-cent property tax increase for Marthasville Community Ambulance District was approved by a comfortable margin during local elections April 3.The tax increase will raise the ambulance district’s levy from 29.62 cents up to 39.62 cents per $100 assessed valuation. It will bring in an estimated $99,665 each year.District administrators said the money will be used to replace or upgrade its two ambulances, along with other equipment, and to fund daily operations. The last tax increase for the district was in 1998.Jenkins winsFormer Marthasville Police Chief Eugene “Gene” Jenkins has succeeded in a bid to upset current Alderman Christopher DeVore as the representative of Marthasville’s Southwest Ward. The race was relatively close, with only 23 votes separating the two candidates. There were 105 votes for Jenkins and 82 votes for DeVore. Jenkins will serve a two-year term.Meanwhile, the race for Marthasville’s East Ward representative isn’t yet certain.Incumbent Alderman Nick Lange was running unopposed until a little over a week ago, when Keith Theissen registered as a write-in candidate. In the election Tuesday, Lange had just under half of the votes, 55 out of 112, leaving 57 unaccounted for. Staff with the Warren County Clerk’s Office have to check all of the write-in ballots to verify the final vote count, which should be done by Friday.Theissen would have to receive nearly every single unaccounted vote to have more votes than Lange.
