Sweet Corn Sunday replaced by ‘Watermelon Sunday’ on Aug. 16

Posted

Due to expected excessive heat, Sweet Corn Sunday, which had been scheduled for Aug. 16 in Treloar and Peers, is being replaced with “Watermelon Sunday.”

The Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department thought it was going to be too hot to grill bratwursts and boil sweet corn, according to Dan Burkhardt, president of Magnificent Missouri, which hosts the event.

“So Sweet Corn Sunday is off, but we’re going to be serving ice cold watermelon and cold drinks for those people who are not afraid to be out in the heat,” Burkhardt said.

The event will still take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Treloar and Peers, although the tram is also cancelled. Bee hives that guests can check out, along with local honey to sample, are still scheduled to be on hand in Peers, and the event will still feature live music, although Burkhardt was not sure Wednesday morning if there might be changes to the music lineup.
