Suspect who led police on manhunt found at home

A daylong manhunt ended peacefully Tuesday night when a Wright City man was found at his residence and taken into custody.Authorities reported the suspect, identified as Johnny Smith, was responsible for stealing two vehicles and leading Warren County deputies on a pursuit that ended in a crash.New criminal charges are pending against Smith, who has an extensive criminal history and had an active felony warrant. He is being held in the Warren County Jail.Authorities gave this time line of events leading up to Smith’s arrest:Smith allegedly stole a vehicle from Gastorf Chevrolet either late Monday or early Tuesday and was observed attempting to break into a barn at a property on Highway O, near South Stracks Church Road. Smith drove away and a responding deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Smith sped off and eventually crashed the stolen vehicle near Stracks and Ranch Road. He fled the scene on foot and managed to elude police for several hours.Smith later stole a vehicle from a residence on Glen Road, authorities reported. The vehicle was located on Kerland Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Smith was found a short time later at this residence in the 200 block of E.S. Second Street.The manhunt caused schools in Wright City to be on a temporary lockdown.Crime
