Suspect robbed shoppers with pellet gun

A Warren County man is accused of robbing three Walmart customers at gunpoint after crashing a stolen car Tuesday morning in Warrenton, according to police.Matthew P. Waisner, 41, is charged with first degree robbery and first degree tampering with a motor vehicle. He is in custody at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.Police responded to a motor vehicle crash after 5 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 70 at the Warrenton exit. The vehicle, a black 2004 Pontiac, was unoccupied when police arrived and had been reported stolen out of Florissant, according to a police report.Officers observed a suspicious white male in the area running on foot with a screw driver in hand. Shortly thereafter, police began receiving calls from Walmart indicating a male with matching description was robbing citizens at gunpoint.The person was described as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, with dark hair and a goatee, wearing a brown leather jacket.Police entered Walmart and observed the suspect, later identified as Waisner, allegedly attempting to take a purse from a woman after she had been thrown to the ground. A police officer immediately detained Waisner.Police found a pellet gun in Waisner’s possession along with the keys to the stolen Pontiac, according to the police report.Video footage from Walmart reportedly showed Waisner pointing the pellet gun at three separate victims in an attempted robbery.Waisner has an arraignment scheduled for March 28 in Warren County Circuit Court.
