A man suspected of sawing the parts off vehicles in a used car lot near Warrenton has been charged with felony stealing and two counts of property damage.
Christopher W. Resinger, 42, of Columbia, was charged April 27 in Warren County Circuit Court. Charges against him also include felony drug possession and several misdemeanor offenses.
On March 29 around 7 a.m., a Warren County sheriff’s deputy discovered Resinger’s pickup truck parked on Sunnyside Road near Veterans Memorial Parkway, according to a sheriff’s department report. The deputy observed Resinger returning to the truck with his front covered in grease marks and his back covered in dirt, according to the report.
Inside the truck were five catalytic converters with fresh cut marks on the ends, along with a reciprocating saw, according to the sheriff’s department. At least two of the converters were later confirmed to be from a vehicle at All That Runs, a used car seller just east of Sunnyside Road. The sheriff’s department said the converters are valued around $3,000.
The deputy reported that Resinger appeared to have metal shavings on his cheek.
While searching the area of the car dealership, the deputy reportedly found another catalytic converter in a field, alongside a hand-crank jack and reciprocating saws. The deputy found fresh foot prints matching Resinger’s shoe size, leading from the items back toward the man’s vehicle.
After getting consent to search Resinger’s truck, deputies located a glass tube containing suspected methamphetamine, along with a bag of marijuana.
A warrant has been issued for Resinger’s arrest. It includes authorization for him to be released on his own recognizance after the warrant is served.
