Like other nominees for the U.S. Supreme Court, during confirmation hearings, Neil Gorsuch took the high road, did the judicial thing, and refused to say just what exactly he would do on specific legal issues.“I have declined to offer any promises, hints or previews of how I’d resolve any case.” Well spoken and the right thing to say.Everybody knows he leans to the right and that is why Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York says he will vote against Gorsuch’s confirmation. Sen. Schumer also has said he will filibuster on the matter as long as he can. Schumer has been under fire by liberals who say he isn’t far enough to the left, and isn’t leading the charge to stop President Donald Trump from advancing any of his long list of promises.Democrats at the confirmation hearings were trying to get Gorsuch to state his position on abortion and other key issues, and he generally handled himself as a judge should, avoiding any comments about Supreme Court decisions. No Democrat has yet to voice support for Gorsuch. He is expected to receive strong Republican support.A committee vote is expected next week. Perhaps later that week, there will be a Senate floor vote. The prediction here is that he will be confirmed.
