SunRise church to have grand opening March 1

SunRise United Methodist Church in Wright City will have a grand opening on March 1 at 9 a.m.At the church campus visitors can expect an uplifting, energetic, casual atmosphere full of great contemporary worship music, lessons from Scripture and a teaching message that is relatable to today’s society with even a little bit of humor mixed in. There is no dress code as this is a “come as you are” church.Scripture says we don’t have the right to judge and that starts right in the heart of this church. All families of the Wright City community are welcome, as well as the surrounding cities and counties.The SunRise Wright City campus will discuss and teach life lessons corresponding with the Bible and the topics will be relatable to today’s society. The first sermon series is called “Lessons From Spring Training” in which they will relate baseball to the Bible.SunRise church is a family-focused church which means that it has something for everyone. Adults will be able to easily find small groups to be a part of. The youth will find out very quickly that they are geared to make an impact on society. Michael Smith is the youth director of the Wright City campus and has a lot of fun things in store that are relatable to what is going on in their lives at school, home, their family life and personal relationships. They will have their own worship service on Wednesday nights. The youth group will be open to all sixth- through 12th-graders. The children’s ministry is led by Melissa Nilges and there will kindergarten through fifth-grade Sunday school with a fun Bible lesson curriculum from teachers who have been certified through the safe sanctuary program.On Wednesday evenings, children will get to explore more Bible lessons and also have many opportunities to serve in the community. The church will also have a nursery for newborns to pre-K and will be taken care of by people who are safe sanctuary certified.Future opportunities at the SunRise United Methodist are upward sports soccer beginning in the spring of 2015 on its campus. Upward is a great way for children to learn skills in soccer and also about the Bible and their community at the same time. Coaches will be trained leaders and be able to teach the children the fundamentals of soccer in a Christian atmosphere. In the fall they will also be looking at flag football and basketball leagues to start.Beginning in August, the lower level will be open every weekday from 5:30-9 a.m. to serve doughnuts, coffee, milk, and juice for those heading to school or for those who are just wanting to come in and enjoy the atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi and cubicles will be set up for students or teachers to get last-minute studying or work done. From 2-6:30 p.m. it will open again to serve slices of pizza, chips, veggies, soft drinks, tea, lemonade and water and have all the amenities open to all who would like to enjoy them.This will be open Monday-Friday with a cover charge of $5. All profits will be turned into mission work whether it be within the local community, state or even worldwide.Who is Pastor Troy Merseal? He grew up in Old Mines, in between Potosi and De Soto. He has been married to his wife for 21 years and they have two teenage daughters who are his pride and joy. He loves all kinds of sports. He came to the SunRise O’Fallon campus church 14 years ago with the early intention of crossing off church on his weekly checklist of things to do.Pastor Merseal says, “If you would have told me I’d be a minister 14 years ago, I would have laughed and said you have the wrong guy.” He now comes from being the associate pastor and youth pastor at the SunRise O Fallon campus to being the campus pastor in Wright City.“I hope that you will come check out our church so that we may grow together in our relationship with God,” Merseal said.
