Record Managing EditorThree bands, a car show and a kids corner will be the featured attractions for this Saturday’s Fall Festival in Warrenton.This is the first year for the revived street fair as it features more live entertainment and a new date compared to similar events in the past.A car show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and the bands will play throughout the day between noon-10 p.m. All of the activities will be held on Main Street.The street and portions of other side streets will be closed to traffic starting at 7 a.m.The city formerly sponsored Catch the Glow, an annual street fair normally held in late June. It was last held in 2012. The event previously was organized by the Warrenton Downtown Association from 2001-09.City officials are hoping the Fall Festival is well received and becomes an annual event. In the past, the festival drew thousands of visitors to the downtown area.“There has been a lot of work put on by different people throughout the community,” Mayor Eric Schleuter said. “I have been hearing nothing but positives about it so far and I hope that continues all the way through it. I hope we are able to see this become an annual thing again. I think a lot of people are encouraging it.”Registration for the car show will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. The entry fee is $15 for judging and $5 for participants who will have their vehicles on display.Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 vehicles. Awards will be presented at 4 p.m., with the top three in each class being recognized.The first of three bands, Butchwax and the Hollywoods, will play from 1-4 p.m.Later in the evening, Smash Band will perform from 5-7 p.m., followed by Dr. Zhivegas from 7:30-10 p.m.Throughout the day, a number of vendors, including food trucks, crafts and artisans, will be present. A kids corner also will be open from noon-10 p.m. with activities including inflatables, photo booth, face painting and monster mural.“I think it will be a very enjoyable for the residents and individuals who come to visit,” said Terri Thorn, director of operations/finance officer. “There is lots of good music and good food, and hopefully great weather. This should turn out to be a much more enjoyable event that what we had in the past.”Main Street and portions of other adjacent streets will be closed to traffic starting at 7 a.m. Saturday. Other side streets will remain open to allow traffic to travel through the stretch of the city.Fall Festival
