Strassenbash, Wright City’s largest festival of the year, is coming next week Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21, at the Wright City Lions Club. The annual Strassenbash Parade is Saturday morning, following a similar route to last year. The festival is organized by the Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Kim Arbuthnot said organizers are excited to once again bring activities and vendors that will interest all age groups.“We’re really excited about having the characters lunch again with Elsa and Batman,” Arbuthnot commented. Kids can have a chance to meet the movie heroes Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lions Club.Strassenbash kicks off Sept. 20 with a car show and live music starting at 5 p.m., along with a variety of vendor booths. Friday also is the Chamber’s Person of the Year Award presentation, in which one community member will be recognized for their contributions to the Wright City area.Bands performing Friday include Blaze Station from 5-8 p.m. in the beer garden, and Peace Lords from 8-10 p.m. on the Strassenbash main stage.A host of fun events are scheduled on Saturday. The biggest attraction of the day, the annual Strassenbash Parade, begins at 11 a.m. at SunRise Church on Bell Road. The parade will travel north to Westwoods Road, and this year will proceed along Westwoods all the way to Wright City Hall, rather than turning again on Wildcat Drive.Anyone who’s hungry before the parade can stop at the Wright City Lions Club for a pancake breakfast hosted by volunteers with the Wright City Fire Corps. Breakfast is from 7-11 a.m.Saturday afternoon has several attractions for visitors while browsing booths at the Lions Club. There are baby contests for different age groups starting at 2 p.m., bingo at 4 p.m., a bike giveaway at 6 p.m. and biscuits and gravy served from 5-8 p.m.The winners of the Strassenbash Ambassador contest, a competition for young adults to engage with the Wright City community and win a scholarship, will be announced at 7 p.m.Live music on Saturday will feature the band BYOB from 1-4 p.m., and a group that Arbuthnot said is new to Chamber events, Johnny Rock-Itt and the Double Wide Symphony, from 8-11 p.m. on the main stage.“They have a pretty good following. We’re hoping that will bring some new people out to the area,” said Arbuthnot. She added that Strassenbash organizers are still accepting applications for vendors at the festival. Applications will be open until Thursday, Sept. 19.For more information, call the Chamber office at 636-206-6191, contact the Chamber through its Strassenbash - Wright City Facebook page, or visit the website new.wrightcityareachamber.org.STRASSENBASH LOGO
