There will be a lot of local talent on tap at this year’s Strassenbash. This year’s event, set for Sept. 20-21, at Wright City’s Diekroeger Park, will feature several rock bands with local ties. Starting things off at 7 p.m. Friday will be One More Round, featuring Wright City High School graduates Dan Neill, Chad Thompson and Dale Nicolas. One More Round performs “amped-up” versions of hits by Poison, Journey, Sticks, Van Halen and other 1970s and 1980s progressive and heavy metal bands. The Rich Helton Band will perform in the beer garden Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Band leader Rich Helton, piano player Jim Vehige and bass player Ralph Key are all veteran members of the Wright City Lions Club and longtime residents of Wright City. The band specializes in foot-stomping traditional country music. The band eXeed will wrap things up Saturday evening. Formed in 2011, eXeed’s playlist ranges from the 1970s to the present, including tunes by Led Zepplin, Katy Perry, Journey, Adele, Aerosmith and Bruno Mars. Warrenton’s Bryan Henningfeld keeps things together as the band’s drummer.Evening music performances will be held under the pavilion to provide attendees a better dancing area. The beer garden is an homage to the German heritage of Strassenbash. And the Warren County Cattlemen’s Group will anchor the food court area.Strassenbash will also feature a new layout in an attempt to make things flow better, organizers say.Other highlights include Saturday morning’s walk/run, followed by the annual Strassenbash parade beginning at 11 a.m. Following the parade, the Wright City Wildcat Pride Marching Band will premier this year’s group of high school marchers. The Innsbrook stage will be the setting of the Strassenbash Queen contest, and dance routines by Dance Variations and Mixed Elements. As always, there will be a bike giveaway, washer tournament, baby contest, person of the year, queen coronation and the 50/50 drawing. See the schedule of events published in next week’s Record.
