Just six weeks remain until the annual Strassenbash Festival, and five participants vying for title of Wright City Student Ambassador have been busy serving around the county. The ambassador program replaces the longtime Strassenbash queen contest, focusing the honor on representing the community through developing and demonstrating model character traits.Program co-coordinator Heidi Halleman said the feedback from the community has been tremendous.“The support has come in full force,” said Halleman. “I’ve had numerous people who have offered to mentor the participants and come in on panel day to educate them on the things we’re trying to teach them about.”The participants had their first meeting in May and began their volunteer work in June when they organized a hygiene drive for the Wright City School District, Wright City Food Pantry and Agape.“They’re very involved and excited about their futures,” said Halleman. “They’re very caring about their community members and understanding that (some) are people not as well off as them.”The participants also sold 50/50 raffle tickets at the Town and County Car Show, Wright City Carnival and Warren County Fair.Halleman said less emphasis is being put on ticket sales this year, although the goal is to cover the cost of the scholarships that will be awarded to the ambassadors.“We want to focus on getting them excited about their community and being good representatives of Wright City,” said Halleman. The busy schedule continues into August with a professional panel day, during which community members will teach the participants about interviewing, resume writing, presentation skills, volunteering, community outreach and how to represent themselves in the employment and finance world. The participants will also help the Wright City Foundation Run/5K on Sept. 7.The 2019 Ambassador will be chosen on the weekend of Strassenbash, Sept. 20-21.STRASSENBASH LOGO
