The Warrenton wrestling team ended the first day at the Class 3 MSHSAA Championships with four out of its six qualifiers still in the running for a medal.Three Warriors earned first-round wins, while another survived with a wrestleback victory.Junior Dominic Kennedy opened action at 106 pounds by pinning Sean Parr of Warrensburg 1:02 into the first period.Junior Dan Filipek was equally exclamatory in his debut in the 152-pound field, defeating Windsor's Austin Marler by fall in 30 seconds to remain unbeaten.Junior Jacob Manion closed the day at 195 pounds, winning an 8-5 decision over Adam Muelebach of Platte County.Also advancing was junior James Biship, who lost his first-round match in the 138-pound bracket by major decision before pinning his wrestleback foe in 2:27.Making an early exit were senior Christian Yates at 120 pounds and senior Seth Brierly at 126 pounds, who both lost their first two matches.Wrestling continues with the quarterfinal round beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and semifinals following at 6 p.m.FOUR WARRENTON WRESTLERS ADVANCEDerrick Forsythe photo.
