Missouri State Parks will help celebrate Marthasville’s bicentennial by bringing its motorized tram to town Sunday, May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. and offering rides on the 3.5-mile stretch of the Katy Trail between the Marthasville trailhead and the Peers Store.Peers Store is open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. to welcome visitors with a message of conservation and old-time music. The store stocks snacks, sodas, ice cream and gift items, including a few that feature the Katy Trail and the Marthasville bicentennial.On May 21, members of the Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department will be grilling brats at the Peers Store, and there will be old-time string band music being played on the front porch by the Buckhannon Brothers.Bryan Haynes, one of Missouri’s great landscape painters, will be at the store to discuss the art he created for the book “Growing Up With the River,” which will be on display.A special guest will be a crow from the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park. The crow is trained to accept a $1 bill from donors and deposit it in a donation box to support the work of the WBS — preserving, protecting and inspiring to safeguard bird species for future generations.The Peers Store is operated by the Katy Land Trust and Magnificent Missouri, two organizations that support the work of other conservation organizations and promote land conservation, conservation education and community activities along the Missouri River and Katy Trail.For more information, go to KatyLandTrust.org.Missouri State Parks
