The Missouri State Auditor’s office will meet with Warrenton city officials Aug. 6 to discuss its findings of an audit completed earlier this year.Mayor Jerry Dyer said officials from the state auditor’s office will meet with the board and other officials in a closed meeting.“They will give us their findings, then give us two or three weeks to respond,” he said. “It will probably be another month before the audit is done.”The request for the audit stems from residents’ concerns over two employee contracts that were provided to Warrenton Police Chief Greg Houdyshell and Director of Operations/Finance Officer Terri Thorn by the Warrenton Board of Alderman at the request of outgoing Mayor Greg Costello in April 2012.Residents and city employees have questioned the fairness of only giving contracts to two employees.Houdyshell and Thorn volunteered to give up the contracts in letters written to the board which were read at the July 16 board of aldermen meeting.The board voted to draft an ordinance at the same meeting that would eliminate the contracts when they expire in April 2014.Resident Stan Shelton gathered 533 signatures on a petition and requested the audit last August.According to state statute, an audit can be requested if 10 percent of citizens who voted in the last gubernatorial election sign the petition requesting the audit.Thorn said she is expecting a “clean” audit and hopes for a timely reply from the state to the city’s response.“This has been going on for a long time,” she said. “We’re ready to put this behind us.”Thorn said she had no idea how much the audit was going to cost the city."They haven’t presented us with a bill,” she said.City officials have previously suggested the audit could cost as much as $55,000.City of Warrenton Logo Picture File
