Four players hit home runs as Warrenton concluded its historic season by winning the Class 3 state championship Saturday night. The Warriors won 12-2 in six innings over Cape Notre Dame. It is the school's first state title. Kelsey Huenefeld hit a lead-off homer in the bottom of the first inning and senior Erica Rugh blasted a grand slam to help Warrenton jump out to a 5-0 lead. Junior Kaylee Anderson and sophomore Destinee Frost each hit home runs in the fifth inning when the lead was extended to 9-2. Taylor Nordwald, a senior, pitched all six innings for the win.Warrenton finishes the year with a 28-2 record.For more on the Warriors' championship run, see the Oct. 29 issue of The Record.
