State association names Speight Young Agent of the Year

Matthew Speight, AIP, AIC, Auxvasse, was named the 2014 “Young Agent of the Year” by the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents.The award was presented at MAIA’s annual Young Agents Conference, held in July.The annual award recognizes an independent insurance agent under the age of 40 who has demonstrated dedication through involvement in state or local association activities, through personal efforts to advance as an insurance professional, and through involvement in community activities.“His entire family, including his grandfather, who is still living at home at age 93, are very proud of Matt’stireless work habits and his commitment to his fellow man,” said Louis Landwehr, the 2014-2015 MAIApresident, at the awards ceremony.Speight is a producer with Scott Agency in Montgomery City. He has been an active member of MAIA sincehis insurance agency career began in 2007, when he joined an agency where his mother and father haveboth worked since 1977, and his grandfather since 1951. Speight graduated from the University ofMissouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in finance.Founded in 1899, the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents is the oldest and largest association ofindependent agents in Missouri, representing some 4,000 independent agents, brokers and theiremployees.Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety ofinsurance companies.Independent insurance agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance property,casualty, life, health, employee benefit plan, and retirement products.
