Caleb Diggs, 24, of St. Louis, was injured in a single-car accident in Warren County while fleeing from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a probable cause statement filed by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the probable cause statement, Diggs had been involved in a vehicle chase with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B on July 9. The patrol had terminated their pursuit near Route J in Calloway County. Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department resumed the pursuit near High Hill and other officers had attempted to stop his vehicle near New Florence.
According to the probable cause statement, Diggs exited the interstate at High Hill and ran the stop sign at the intersection, briefly losing control of his vehicle before regaining his composure and returning to the interstate.
He continued traveling east on Interstate 70, passing multiple vehicles on the shoulder and exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour. A Jonesburg Police Officer had set up a spikestrip near the exit 183 off ramp which Diggs struck, flattening his tires, according to the probable cause statement.
He then exited the interstate to the south through a ditch traveling on Scudder Ranch Road to Route B. Two miles later Diggs lost control, according to the probable cause statement.
According to the patrol, Diggs traveled off the right side of the road and overturned his vehicle several times, before coming to a stop in a corn field.
Diggs was placed into custody following the accident, according to the probable cause statement. He sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis via ambulance.
Diggs had two outstanding warrants, one in St. Charles for resisting arrest, a misdemeanor and another in Maplewood for stealing. In addition he was charged in Montgomery County with aggravated fleeing a stop, a felony, and operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner along with driving without a license, both misdemeanors.
A warrant was served for his arrest and he is to be held without bond.
