Christopher Littler, 37, of St. Louis, and Ladarious Melton, 53, of Fenton, were charged with one count of forgery and one count of stealing $750 or more in connection to a July 2 incident. Both charges are felonies.
According to the probable cause statement filed by Warren County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Michael Pelton, he was contacted on July 17 for a report of fraud.
The reporting party said on July 2, Littler had cashed a counterfeit check belonging to the victim in the amount of $2,704. Melton also cashed a counterfeit check in the amount of $2,304.
The victim said he noted the charge on July 15 and alerted his bank.
He said he did not know Littler and had never written him a check. He also presented his checkbook, which included several differences from the checks cashed by Littler and Melton, according to the probable cause statement.
Melton also cashed two other checks, one for $2,810 in Washington and another for $2,402 in Union, according to the probable cause statement.
A warrant has been issued for Melton’s arrest and he is to be held on a $5,000 cash bond. As of the morning of Aug. 18, a warrant had not been issued for Littler’s arrest.
