South and Pinckney intersection in Truesdale closed due to downed line

The intersection of South Street and Pinckney Street in Truesdale was closed to traffic Thursday morning after a truck struck a phone line.

“They’re doing some road work down here, and it happens sometimes, you know. They’ve got those up and down delivering and picking up and dropping off, so he came through and just clipped this utility line from the phone company,” Police Chief Casey Doyle told the Record.

In addition to Truesdale police, Spectrum and Ameren employees were on the scene working shortly before 11 a.m. Sept. 3. Doyle told the Record the truck hit the line about 45 minutes earlier.

While power lines were not impacted, Ameren is called anytime there is a downed utility line, Doyle said.

“We contact them, just because it’s connected to a power pole, we want to be 100 percent before we start doing anything,” he said. “You just don’t want anybody to get hurt.”

Although he said he hoped to have the road reopened as soon as possible, Doyle did not have a time frame for when that would be. He advised drivers in the area to take a different route.
