It was a big day for the Wright City girls’ soccer team on Monday.
Not only did the Wildcats (2-2) get back to the .500 mark, but the team did so by defeating a district opponent in a 5-1 romp at home against Mexico.
Freshman midfielder Haley Elsenrath recorded the hat trick, tallying a trio of goals to go along with one goal apiece from junior forward Ada Ferrell and freshman midfielder Caitlin Williams.
Assists were tallied by Elsenrath, Williams and junior midfielder Juliana Lopez-Luna.
Wright City is scheduled to return to action at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at home against St. Clair (0-1).
WARRENTON BASEBALL WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT – Junior Jake Kirkpatrick came through in the clutch during Warrenton’s 4-3 home win over Union.
He erased a tie score with a fifth-inning RBI single, which scored junior Ric Standley, who doubled earlier in the inning.
The late-inning heroics came after Union (6-4) rebounded to tie the game after three first-inning runs from the Warriors (5-3).
Warrenton’s opening surge was the result of an RBI single from Kirkpatrick, an RBI ground out from sophomore Tate Aulgur and an RBI double from sophomore Keegan Lehmkuhl.
Warrenton is next scheduled to host Montgomery County at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
WRIGHT CITY OUTSLUGS HOLT – The Wildcats got back to winning ways on Monday in rebounding to earn the 10-7 win
Trailing 7-1 after four innings, Wright City’s bats came alive. The Wildcats (4-3) scored nine runs between the fifth and sixth innings to earn the win.
Sophomore Tyler Martin led the team’s 17-hit attack with four hits and three RBI.
Junior Carter Pierson added three hits and a pair of RBI while sophomore Cameron Moyer, freshman Fin Parra, sophomore Leighton McDonald and senior Logan Rose each also had multi-hit games.
Pierson pitched four innings to earn the win.
Wright City is next scheduled to host Hermann at 4:30 p.m. today.
