Smithley records 16th-place finish in second truck race

Garrett Smithley extended MB Motorsports’ recent strong runs with a 16th-place showing in the Pocono Mountains 150 at Pocono Raceway.Smithley raced as high as 14th and managed to stay on the lead lap as he wheeled the Foristell-based No. 63 truck to a respectable finish Saturday. He qualified 18th on the 2.5-mile paved track.It was the best finish for Smithley, who was making his second career start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He made his series debut earlier this year with an 18th-place showing at Atlanta Motor Speedway.“It was another perfect weekend for MB Motorsports and myself as a driver,” Smithley said in a release. “I was immediately comfortable with the truck. Trip (Bruce, crew chief) and I worked well together all weekend long. We could have picked up a few more spots on the last restart, but I took it easy to keep the truck clean; restarts at Pocono (Raceway) are insane!”MB Motorsports also fielded a second entry with Justin Jennings in the No. 36 truck. Jennings completed three laps before ending the race with vibration troubles. He qualified 28th in the 32-truck field.Sprint Cup regular and pole-sitter Kyle Busch led twice for a race-high 53 laps to win in his first series of the year. Rounding out the top five were Kevin Harvick, Tyler Reddick, Cameron Hayley and Austin Dillon.The truck series returns to action Aug. 15 at Michigan International Speedway.
