Warrenton’s district winning season was led by the senior leadership of Brooke Smith and Lexi Frederick. Since entering the starting lineup as sophomores, they helped accumulate 40 wins for the program.
“We started the season with Lexi Frederick having a leg injury and Brooke Smith being injured by a drunk driver,” Warrenton Head Coach Greg Williams said. “Brooke is a tremendously gifted athlete and Lexi defines what it means to be a Lady Warrior.”
Smith received a GAC North first team All-Conference nod after leading the team in scoring by averaging 13 points a game. She shot the basketball at a high clip this year at 45%, including almost at 53% inside the three-point arc. She also led the team in blocks and steals. She found herself on the All-District team for the Class 4, District 8 as well.
“Brooke had the best season of her career,” Williams said. “She had some real terrific games.”
Smith has decided to further her academic and basketball career by attending Mineral Area College located in Park Hills, Mo.
“She should mature nicely at Mineral Area,” Williams said. “We will see where that experience will take her.”
Frederick was the team’s point guard and best on-ball defender. Managing to average almost six points a game, she was one of the three-point specialists, shooting over 39% and led the team in assists.
“She had several injuries during her career and every time we didn't have her, it was disastrous,” Williams said. “I wish more people would have come to the district championship game, Lexi was a sight to see as she was determined that we would win that game and I will remember her performance until the day I die.”
Frederick will be furthering her academics and soccer careers at Missouri S&T, a division II school in Rolla, MO.
“This basketball season was interesting to say the least,” Frederick said. “But winning the title game, Brooke and I were going crazy because we have been playing together for 10 years and never had anything like that.”
