Students were temporarily evacuated from Daniel Boone Elementary and part of Black Hawk Middle schools Monday, Oct. 3, after gas smells became noticeable.Mike Owenby, Warrenton Fire Protection District chief, said the schools had several small gas leaks inside and outside the buildings and students were evacuated as a precaution.Gas levels measured higher than normal, but were minor, he said.School officials evacuated students before firefighters arrived about 11:15 a.m. Ameren crews were already on site, said Owenby.Students returned to class at about 12:30 p.m.During the evacuation, Owenby said Ameren crews and firefighters checked equipment, gas sources and lines to locate and repair all potential leaks.Owenby said everyone involved responded just as they should have.Evacuation
