The annual Slim’s Journey, a 5K run and 2.5K walk through Warrenton, will be held Saturday, Sept. 23.Slim’s Journey will begin and end at College United Methodist Church, 701 E. Main St.The rain or shine event raises money and awareness for the Friedreich’s ataxia Research Alliance (FARA). FARA’s goals are to slow, stop and reverse the disease.Friedreich’s ataxia, which is diagnosed in 1 in 50,000 people worldwide, affects the nervous system and the heart. It’s a progressive disease that’s usually diagnosed in young people. The first symptoms may be muscle weakness and lack of balance and coordination.Participants may do an early pick up of their race packets from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the church.On Saturday, Sept. 23, the schedule is as follows: • From 7 to 7:45 a.m. participants may registration pick up packets.• At 8 a.m. the 5K run and 2.5K walk begins.• At 8:45 a.m., the awards ceremony takes place. Awards will be given to top overall male and female runners.• At 9 a.m., breakfast will be held. Organizers are asking for a free-will offering.Registration costs vary.Julie Myers is the race director.
