The Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday will be in effect this year from Friday, April 25, through Thursday, April 25, according to State Rep. Bart Korman, R-42. This is the fifth year for the sales tax holiday. During the designated period, the state sales tax will be waived on the purchases of qualifying energy-efficient appliances. Appliances that qualify will include clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps. Appliances also must have the blue "Energy Star" seal which certifies the appliance as energy efficient. For appliances costing more than $1,500, the sales tax waiver will only apply to the first $1,500 of the purchase price. The remaining cost of the appliance will be taxed at the normal sales tax rate. Appliances do not have to be picked up or delivered during the tax holiday to qualify, but they must be paid for during the tax holiday. Answers to commonly asked questions, a map of what counties and cities will also wave sales tax, and more information can be found at http://dor.mo.gov/business/sales/taxholiday/green/faq.php.
