Vintage Whimsy Remix in Warrenton is everything the name says. It’s vintage furniture and home goods brought back to life with a whimsical finish. The owners use paints, glazes, waxes and other crafty techniques to make old or unattractive products look fresh and unique.Vintage Whimsy Remix is inside Vintage and Vape, 1000 Warrenton Shoppes in Warrenton. The store is owned by Rick and Lisa Luter. Vintage and Vape first opened on Main Street in Warrenton in 2015. They moved to this location in 2017.For the most part, Rick oversees the vape section and Lisa oversees the vintage section. The vape store came first. The vintage part of the store came about somewhat accidentally, Lisa said. The Luters were furniture refinisher hobbyists. After a while, the furniture started making its way into the vape store and now takes up the most space. The next goal is to help others become used furniture crafters.“I want to be DIY central,” Lisa said.A part of the store is set up for classes. Lisa hosts “Pick your Party” paint classes to teach others how to do their own remixes. In a few different classes, she shows people how to get started and the newest surface techniques. She has classes for Mason jar and pallet crafting. The dates are decided based on attendance.Vintage Whimsy Remix also features unfinished furniture — dressers, chairs, tables — from decades past and items found at craft shows or flea markets, like small collectibles, jewelry, original art, lamps, throw pillows, etc.The Luters, booth vendors and consignors bring in the inventory.Lisa said the pieces, although used, are in good condition and sell for less than new furniture. Her talent in shopping for the store is finding the right pieces. She sees things for what they could be, not just what they are.Whether people learn the refinishing techniques from her, or others, “I would love for people to come in, buy some furniture, paint it and share pictures of it,” she said. The idea is to share what’s possible in furniture restoration. On a side note, it promotes the practice of renew, reuse, recycle.Lisa said she was hooked on furniture “remixing” from her first try.“My first task was when my son moved out of the house. He left behind a dresser,” she said. She painted it. And painted it again. The experience was fun and the results were an improvement. She took on more projects and learned everything she could on the topic. The Luters have space for new vendors.“The biggest thing I’m looking for is another artist to do costume work,” Lisa said.Vintage Whimsy Remix carries the Dixie Belle Paint Co. and Miss Lillian’s No Wax Chock Paint lines.Hours are Sunday noon to 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The store is closed Mondays. For more information, call 636-456-4335 or look for Vintage Whimsy Remix on Facebook.
