Record Managing EditorWarren County Sheltered Workshop is celebrating the completion of an expansion project that provides room for current and future work.On Monday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark completion of a 5,000-square-foot addition built to the west of the existing approximate 10,000-square-foot facility located at 1760 Daniel Boone Industrial Parkway in Truesdale. The sheltered workshop employs individuals with disabilities and specializes in contracted work such as assembly, packaging and woodwork.Freise Construction served as the project’s general contractor, while other services were provided by Gerloff Design Group and Lewis-Bade Engineering. The project cost was around $320,000, according to Executive Director Kelli Clodfelter.Construction crews broke ground in December.“It went really well,” Clodfelter said. “Freise Construction worked through all the weather. It went very fast.”The expansion was needed as the number of contracted jobs the sheltered workshop has significantly grown along with its workforce in recent years. The new addition has a ventilation system that will allow employees to finish assembly and painting for a local company, We Three Crafters, which makes outdoor yard signs. The extra room will also help the sheltered workshop grow its partnership with SAF Holland, which manufactures axle and suspension systems primarily for trailers at its Warrenton facility.Four years ago, the sheltered workshop had around 40 employees. Now it employs more than 100 people. The organization’s staff also has increased from four to 15, according to Clodfelter. The sheltered workshop also remains the only one in the state to offer free transportation to and from work for employees, she added.“We have grown and grown,” Clodfelter said.
