Wright City residents with questions about the proposed sale of the city’s water and sewer systems can get answers Feb. 27.City aldermen and representatives of Public Water Supply District No. 2 of St. Charles County will be at the Heiliger building in Diekroeger Park Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions from the public.“A number of citizens have commented about having an opportunity to ask questions, to talk about the sale of the water and sewer systems,” said Mayor Dan Rowden. “We hope that they take advantage of this time to show up to the meeting and ask their questions and get some answers.”Rowden added that community members are welcome to submit written questions in advance.“That would be helpful for us, to make sure we have answers for those specific questions.”Aldermen confirmed last month after a year of negotiations that they want to go forward with selling the city’s utilities. Voters must approve the sale of the water and sewer systems, which will be on election ballots this April. Two-thirds of voters must say yes for the sale to be approved.City officials said system upgrades mandated by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources have become too expensive and are set to cost the city millions. If the sale goes through, PWSD 2 will pay $10.5 million to take ownership of the city’s network of pipes, wells, treatment system and other water and sewer facilities.Part of that money will be used to pay off about $2.2 million of existing debt from past upgrades to the sewer system. Another $1.2 million will be used to purchase 62 acres of land along Westwoods Road for a future park, officials said. The election to decide the fate of the utility systems, along with several city government positions, is April 3.Wright City signRecord photo
