By Tim Schmidt Record Managing Editor The city of Warrenton has several improvement projects lined up to keep crews busy this summer. The work will consist of paving improvements on three city streets and new sidewalks on two streets. Aldermen approved spending $29,318 to complete the five projects at their June 17 meeting. The city had budgeted $290,622 for the work, which came in $304 under budget. The costliest project of the five is paving Roosevelt between Wabash and Banner. That will cost $16,306. The other paving projects will occur at the intersection of Flora and McKinley and on Roosevelt and Flora. Combined those projects will cost $7,316. New sidewalks will be poured on Steinhagen from Banner to Flora and on Main Street near Martin Funeral Home. Both sidewalk projects will cost $5,696. Public Works Director Guy Gevers noted that city crews are scheduled to begin the projects in July. In other news • Mayor Jerry Dyer appointed Administrative Assistant/Human Resource Officer Brandie Walters as the deputy city clerk, a position that had been vacant. The move fills a vacancy and will allow Walters to fill in for City Clerk Melody Rugh during meetings, city officials said. The board also approved the reappointments of Elmer Klump, Michael Hite and Jason Emmerson to the park board. All three will serve three-year terms. Other appointments that were approved were Keith Schwaab to the board of adjustment to replace Ron Jurgesmeyer, who recently resigned, and Ron Dickey as alternate A, Jason Cullom as alternate B and Scott Schoenfeld as alternate C to the board of adjustment. All of the appointments were approved by a 5-0 vote. • The Warren County Fair Association was issued an exemption for loud or unusual noise during the Fair, to be held July 1-5. The fairgrounds will be open to midnight July 1-3 and July 5 and to 1 a.m. on July 4. The request passed by a 5-0 vote. In addition, aldermen agreed to the following street closures — Walton Street and Kuhl Avenue from 1-6:30 p.m. And Highway M and Pinckney from 4-6:30 p.m. — for the Fair parade on Sunday, June 29, and renewed the Fair association’s annual liquor license. • Aldermen voted 5-0 to award the office cleaning bid to Crystalline, Wentzville, for $24,794, which was the third lowest of six bids received. The two low bids were $17,640 submitted by Building Stars, St. Louis, which would hire subcontractors and declined to identify them; and $22,140 from Citiwide Cleaning, Wentzville, which officials say provided unsatisfactory service in the past year. Other bids were submitted by Midwest Contract Services, Kansas City, $26,400, Janie King, Troy, $29,341.560, and C.E. Berry Janitorial Service, Overland Park, $32,244.The city had budgeted $28,000 for the cleaning. • Andrew Sitton and Jonathan Kemp were hired as full-time police officers to fill two openings. Both officers will be paid $16.73 an hour. The hirings passed by a 5-0 vote. • The board awarded a bid for a car video to be purchased for the police department for $1,795. Two other bids were submitted by Pro-Vision Video, $2,599, and Watch Guard, $4,795. • Deaf child warning signs will be erected at the intersection of Lakeview and 2nd Street. The board approved the request, made by a resident in the area, by a 5-0 vote. • The board approved a request to close a portion of Pinckney Street on Saturday, June 28, for the Faith Christian Fellowship Church 5K youth run. • The grounds and maintenance department received approval to sell surplus equipment. The items that will be posted on govdeals.com include two pushmowers that don’t run and a True beer tapper that can hold four kegs.
