As the construction stage of the Proposition A renovation project nears, administrators in the Warren County R-III School District are excited to move into the concrete stages of the project. While the groundbreaking is not expected to take place until early fall, bid contracts will begin going out soon to determine which contractors will be awarded jobs.On Thursday, the district was issued its Series 2016 Bond, with $10,707,311 being deposited into the construction fund. The issuance cost of the bonds was $129,700.Representatives from the underwriting company LJ Hart & Co. were on hand during the June 2 board meeting to discuss the final details of the bond. They explained the timing of the issuance as being essential to the district, as interest rates continued in a favorable trend from each of the previous reports given at prior board meetings.“With the bond market, it’s all about timing, and we hit it at the right time,” said Superintendent Jim Chandler. It is anticipated the district will save another $35,000 off interest costs from the figures reported during the May meeting.“We’re really pleased with how it all played out and the rate we got,” said Chandler. “It’s going to allow us to really maximize the funds. We’re going to end up getting a little bit more money for those premiums.”The bonds were offered for sale locally, with two banks opting to invest. First State Community Bank purchased $500,000, while Jonesburg State Bank purchased $200,000.The funds for Proposition A are going toward safety and technology renovations throughout the district, as well as expansion projects at the high school. The first phase will begin with new security vestibules at four of the district’s buildings.“We’re finalizing all the bids to go out,” said Chandler. “The specifications for those bids will take three to four months.”Engineers have been meeting with building administrators throughout the district on a weekly basis to plan the process going forward.“Now we that we know where the numbers are coming in, we can focus on that building stage,” said Chandler. “It can seem like it takes a long time to get to the groundbreaking, but it’s important not to rush these projects. Once we get rolling, it should go pretty fast.”Bonds Issued
