Record Managing EditorFrom academic successes in the classroom to triumphs on the athletic fields, this year’s senior class at Wright City High School has experienced numerous achievements.Those accomplishments will be celebrated Friday night when 81 seniors receive their diplomas.The school’s graduation ceremony will be held outside at the football field this Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. Eighty-one seniors will receive their diplomas.“One word to describe this class is successful,” high school Principal Shawn Brown said. “They have been one of the highest achieving classes from third grade on. From EOC to MAP tests to the ACT, they have been very successful. They are a hard-working, great group of kids.”In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to the gym.Brown noted that seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.Friday’s commencement ceremony will feature speeches from three seniors. Brittany McPike, senior class president, will give one address. The other two seniors, who finish in the top two of their class, will not be identified until late this week.Sue Wright, longtime teacher and coach at the high school, will give the faculty address. She was selected by the senior class, according to Brown.Also during the ceremony, two seniors — one male and one female — will be honored as the students of the year. The two honorees will be selected from a group that is recognized each month during the school year, Brown said.“They excelled in the classroom and outside,” he said. “They are just great role models.”In addition, all seniors who received cum laude honors will be recognized at Friday’s graduation ceremony.Brown said he is looking forward to giving the senior class a rousing send-off.“They have been great leaders this year,” Brown said. “They have been great ambassadors for our school.
