The Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Board has awarded a $4,000 Operation Round Up grant to the Warren County Senior Center. The Operation Round Up grant comes at a time when the organization has had to adjust its budget due to rising expenses. For example, in recent weeks several repairs had to be made to the senior center building, located at 501 Ashland Ave., Warrenton.“We have also seen an increased need for our meal services, and at the same time a significant decline in contributions,” said Executive Director Lindsey Boehle. The grant will support meal services. The senior center has been providing meals and services to senior citizens since 1974. A hot meal is prepared and served each weekday, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the center. For home-bound clients, meals are delivered to them any day the center is open. The Warren County Senior Center’s mission is to assist the elderly in maintaining or improving independence, minimizing or if possible eliminating the need for institutional care and providing a safeguard against potential abuse or neglect by providing friendship, education and nutritionally balanced meals. The senior center assists all senior citizens in Warren County. The Warren County Senior Center is both a nonprofit organization and a charitable organization. It is governed by a nine-member board and each member is elected to a three-year term. The senior center operates with a four-person staff and many volunteers. To learn more about the Warren County Senior Center, visit www.wcseniorcenter.org or call 636-456-3379.Grant funds come from Cuivre River Electric Cooperative members who donate to the Community Trust through Operation Round Up. Members voluntarily pay the round up amount on their monthly electric bill. The funds are administered by volunteer trustees who represent areas within St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren and Pike counties where Cuivre River offers electric service.Operation Round Up addresses unmet needs in the areas of community and emergency services, home weatherization, health, youth and education.
