See you at the Fair

By this time next week, the livestock barn will be swarming with animals, entertainment will fill the main stage, and the midway will be full of gut-stopping carnival rides. The Warren County Fairgrounds will come alive once again. The Fair, now in its 66th year, kicks off Sunday with a parade at 4 p.m. The fairgrounds open Tuesday and will close Saturday night. We can’t wait to see what is in store for this year. While last year’s Fair brought some unwanted attention — from a television report being critical of wristbands worn by children to a mud run accident that ended in an exhibit hall and sent spectators flying — organizers are optimistic that another successful event will be held. Each year the Fair schedule is jam-packed with activities. Depending on your interest, you can show up for a couple of hours or a couple of days at the fairgrounds. Regardless, there is plenty of fun.And all of this — from watching motocross races to the demo derby to the queen coronation — comes at an affordable price.Forget about the criticism that is thrown out each year at this time. Those naysayers complain about the price, the lineup and anything else they hope can grab attention. When you think about it, the price of admission to the Fair is reasonable, especially considering a season pass costs only $35. That’s one price to ride as many rides you want at no additional cost for the entire duration of the Fair. Think about that the next time you fork over $50 to $60 at Six Flags. We, for one, are excited to spend many hours next week snapping hundreds of photos and promoting the hard work of our local youth. And let’s not forgot all the hours from volunteers who spend months, not weeks, putting this all together. The Warren County Fair is a staple of the summer. So go ahead and get in line for that funnel cake, grab a cold beer or lemon shakeup, and pull up a seat in the grandstand. We’ll see you there!
