Secretary of State Jason Kander recently announced that his office will host a free grant writing workshop this September to help archivists, librarians, and other record-keepers access preservation funding resources for Missouri institutions and community groups.“I’m proud to continue advancing efforts to make sure our rich heritage is safeguarded for future generations,” Kander said. “Grants are a crucial source of funding for the preservation and accessibility of Missouri’s historic records.”Sponsored by the Missouri State Archives, a division of Kander’s office, the workshop will take place in Jefferson City on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Attendees will learn about the grant review process and the parts of a grant proposal, as well as how to differentiate between types of grants and funders, where to look for resources and how to find alternative funding sources.Although the workshop is free, attendance is limited to 30 and preference will be given to individuals living or working in Missouri whose positions directly relate to the workshop topic and whose institutions have restrictions on out-of-state travel.Registration is taking place now at the Society of American Archivists’ website, http://saa.archivists.org/events/grant-proposal-writing-1540/545/.For additional information, contact the society at education@archivists.org or call (866) 722-7858.               Funding for this workshop was obtained by the Missouri Historical Records Advisory Board through a state and national archival partnership grant from the National Archives and Records Administration.Jason Kander
