The second annual Pump and Run is Saturday, June 2, at Snap Fitness, 10 Wildcat Drive in Wright City. This is a 5K run with a twist. Participants can slash time off their 5K run by doing bench presses. Men need to press 90 percent of their body weight and women need to press 50 percent of their body weight. For each rep in one set, participants get to take off 15 seconds off their running time.Proceeds from the event will provide college scholarships.Wright City R-II School District Superintendent David Buck, Ed.D., is the race coordinator. He said people of all shapes and fitness levels can participate — and already have.“Everyone who did the pump last year could do the pump last year,” he said.He added that participants can elect to do the pump, the run, or both. And they can walk instead of run.Medals will be given to the pump winners, runner winners and Pump and Run winners by gender in several age categories. The pump portion of the event is 7:45-8:45 a.m. The run starts at 9 a.m.Entry fees are $12 by May 23, $15 after. People who register by May 23 will receive a free Pump and Run T-shirt. People who register later will receive a T-shirt while supplies last.Proceeds from this event will be offered as college scholarships.Buck said the Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce holds two events to raise scholarship money. The Texas Hold ’em and the Pump and Run. He said the latter is the primary fundraising event for this effort.“Last year we gave three scholarships. We hope to do it again this year,” Buck said. The “pump” in this run sets it apart from other run/walk events.“We hope to see a lot of people out there,” Buck said.Registration forms are available at the Chamber and Wright City businesses including Snap Fitness and Legacy Drugstore. People may also request a registration form from Buck at david.buck@wrightcity.k12.mo.us.
