Second National Night Out is Aug. 7 in Wright City

The second annual National Night Out event in Wright City is this Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, in Diekroeger Park.National Night Out is an annual community event created to build stronger relationships between community members and the first responders that serve them.Law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics from Warren County will meet with event-goers at the park, host activities and give tours of their vehicles. Other community groups will be at the park to run fun activities and give away free items.The event is free, and organizers said they ask participating groups to keep all giveaways free.Activities will include face painting, carnival games and live music.Visitors might want to bring a small amount of cash for food, as well as canned or dry food goods to donate. Wright City Food Pantry will be collecting food donations during the event.First responders also take advantage of the opportunity to provide some lessons about public safety, drug prevention and community health.Event organizer Kim Jumper said one of the musical groups performing is School of Rock, a Ballwin program that teaches music for high school students.“Their performance will drop your jaw. It’s such a cool addition to this event,” Jumper said. “Everybody will be pleasantly surprised with how talented (the students) are.”More music will be performed by the Gateway Country Music Association, based in Wright City.Jumper said National Night Out still has room for more groups to join in.“If there are more community or church organizations that are interested in participating, we’re asking them to provide a craft, giveaway or children’s activity,” Jumper said. “We are totally open to having more people.”Groups interested in participating in National Night Out can call Bryan Spencer at 314-740-1050.The National Night Out festivities last from 4-8 p.m. Live music begins at 6 p.m.
