Athletic events in Warren County were disrupted by inclement over much of the past week. School officials were busy working to find make up dates for those displaced events as the end of the regular season nears. Both the Warren County and Wright City School Districts elected to release early last Friday, prompting the cancellation of the basketball contests scheduled for that evening. School was cancelled on Monday and Tuesday as well for both institutions, again disrupting extra-cirricular plans. Warrenton had planned to host Zumwalt North during its Courtwarming festivities last Friday, with a full slate of four games beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Warriors were supposed to host GAC South contender Holt on Tuesday in a varsity doubleheader. Activities director Craig Frazier says the school was able to find replacement dates, but some of the events had to be altered. The doubleheader versus Holt will now be played on separate nights. The varsity girls game was rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10. The varsity boys will host Holt on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The varsity contests originally scheduled for the same night against Zumwalt North will also now be played on separate dates. The varsity boys will host Zumwalt North on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. The varsity girls' makeup game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. Wright City was forced to cancel its Friday night boys basketball contest at Orchard Farm. Activities director James Weir says the Eastern Missouri Conference battle is expected to be made up on Monday, Feb. 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The district was also planning to host a junior varsity boys and girls basketball tournament beginning on Monday. The tournament is now scheduled to be played on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday of this week. By hosting the tournament on Saturday, Frazier says the school had to move a previously contest against Zumwalt East. The boys game against the Lions originally scheduled for Saturday will now be made up on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. The girls contest will not be made up. The Wildcats were supposed to play a varsity girls conference game at Montgomery County on Monday. It has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. Additionally, the varsity doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday night at Wellsville has also been postponed. It will be made up on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. Wright City has a larger window of time to make up contests than does Warrenton, as Class 3 teams do not enter district play until March 1. Weir says the only inconvenience caused by the delays so far is that it will have the varsity girls team playing on four consecutive nights during the final week of the regular season. Liberty Christian Academy was able to fit in all of its contests at Great Midwest Tournament during the end of last week. The Eagles avoided a weather delay on Monday by moving their Metro Athletic Conference Tournament game up three hours to 4 p.m. The Liberty Christian girls were not scheduled to begin conference tournament play until Thursday.
