School District and City Aldermen to hold joint meeting tonight

The Warren County R-III Board of Education will meet with Warrenton's Board of Aldermen tonight in a gathering to discuss how the two elected groups can work together on several important issues. The meeting is Tuesday, May 8, beginning at 6 p.m.The topics for discussion include economic and growth trends, areas of overlapping interest for local government and local schools. The two groups will also work together to establish a plan for communication and future collaboration, according to an agenda sent out on Monday. Also on the agenda is a discussion of plans to one day bring a technical college to Warren County. The school board recently voted to distance itself from East Central College, which is based in Franklin County and has traditionally offered programs in Warren County. The R-III board chose instead to strengthen ties with St. Charles Community College, which it hopes will eventually open a satellite tech school in the area.Earlier this year, the Warrenton Board of Aldermen turned down an invitation to join a committee exploring the tech college proposal, with aldermen saying they would rather let the schools take the lead on the issue.Warren County R-III School District logo
