Annaline Schieffer’s entry in the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest, sponsored by the Warrenton Lions Club, has been selected to represent Missouri in the contest finals.
Schieffer, age 13, of Wentzville, entered the contest sponsored by the Warrenton Lions Club through her school, Crossroads Christian Connection. The school cooperative serves families from Lincoln, St. Charles and Warren counties.
“Working on the poster has made me think about what people have had to sacrifice for peace,” Schieffer stated with her entry. “Journey of Peace” was the international theme for 2019-2020.
Her artistic depiction of the theme was selected to represent the Warrenton Lions Club. Her poster was then submitted to district judges in Mexico, Mo., who chose it from among other entries to advance to the state council.
“I was excited to hear that our district had the winning poster for the state,” said District 26 M-3 Governor Lion Susan Paden of Mexico. “For a group of judges to select one poster from those submitted would have been hard, because they were all winners within their districts.” There are seven Lions Club districts throughout Missouri.
Schieffer and her poster will be honored at the District Convention on March 21 in Mexico, Mo., and at the State Convention on April 18 in Osage Beach, Mo.
Lions Clubs International introduced the contest in 1988 to encourage young people to think about peace, creatively express what it means to them and share their unique visions with the world.
A new international theme is announced each year, as the contest continues to challenge youth around the world to share their talents and ideas. The 2020-2021 theme will be announced soon. The contest is open to youth ages 11-13 through schools and organized youth groups, in conjunction with the local Lions Club.
