World War I ended at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The date is celebrated as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day and Veterans Day.

While veterans are respected every day for their service, Veterans Day brings ceremonies and salutes. Here are some Veterans Day services going on in Warren County:

Marthasville

Brig. Gen. Christopher Knapp will be the guest speaker at the Marthasville American Legion Post 180, 1036 N. Highway 47, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, for its Veterans Day Service. Knapp is chief of staff for the Missouri Air National Guard.

The ceremony will have a reading of the names of deceased veterans whose families donated U.S. flags to the post.

To commemorate the centennial of America’s entry into World War I, Pablo Baum, re-enacting Gen. Pershing, commander of U.S. forces, will present a program on World War I starting at 1 p.m.

After the service, there will be a carry-in dinner with meat and drinks provided. A shooting match starts at 1 p.m.

Warrenton

The Warrenton Elks Lodge No. 2662, 1101 E. Veterans Memorial Parkway, will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

Warrenton resident Steven Hayes, a veteran from the 82nd  Airborne, will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served after the ceremony.

Black Hawk Middle School, located at 300 Kuhl Ave., invites veterans for doughnuts, coffee and juice Friday, Nov. 10, from 8:15-8:45 a.m. An assembly will be held at 9 a.m. to honor veterans.

Wright City

Wright City High School, 520 Westwoods Road, will host its annual Veterans Day assembly at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in the gym. All veterans and their families are invited to attend and be recognized for their service.
