The Warren County Salary Commission approved a $14,000 pay raise for the coroner’s position to take effect at the next election pursuant to a new state law.
According to County Commissioner Matt Flake, who was appointed the chair of the salary commission during its Nov. 4 meeting, the state of Missouri passed legislation, in the form of Senate Bill 1, which allows approval of up to $14,000 in additional salary for the position of coroner.
Warren County Coroner Jason Sides currently makes $27,431.
“That is bringing him up to $41,000 a year, which in my opinion is not near what he deserves, but that is where we are at with the state of Missouri,” Flake said.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to bring the position to $41,431, effective the next cycle.
Sheriff Kevin Harrison then brought up the issue of county commissioner salaries. He said the county has consistency and equity in the county positions with the exception of the commissioners salaries. Harrison wanted to seek a legal position on the issue of commissioners salaries in an attempt to bring them up to other county salaries.
Commissioners in Warren County currently make $52,036, with the presiding commissioner making $54,036. It was established at the meeting that county officials not covered by specific rates under state statute make $77,149. These positions include county clerk, recorder of deeds, assessor, public administrator, collector and treasurer. The sheriff’s salary is $93,395, the county prosecutors salary is set at $165,852.
