Students at Warren County R-III’s Rebecca Boone Elementary School will experience country living as they enjoy their school meals in a setting that features a brightly painted barn mural on one wall and a welcoming fireplace and hearth on another.R-III art teacher Mrs. Carol Peper had the idea for the “Rural Mural” project. She painted the cafeteria during the summer.“When I pulled into the parking lot in the morning, Mrs. Peper’s green car was always there,” said Rebecca Boone Elementary Principal Dr. Jill Schowe during a special dedication ceremony for the cafeteria Aug. 27. The ceremony kicked off Curriculum Night for parents and students who filled the new space before heading off to classrooms for an overview of the new school year.Schowe presented special plaques to Peper and to R-III Food Services Director Debbie Linke, who urged Peper to take on the project. Linke’s husband Kevin also helped on the project, building benches that open to store items, and adding other thematic touches.Peper’s mural art can be seen throughout the community, including at other school buildings and as a permanent backdrop for the main stage at the fairgrounds.Rural Mural Comes to Rebecca Boone Elementary
