Rural King Supply has announced that its massive new store in Warrenton will open in the spring of 2020.
The 90,000-square-foot farm and home store is currently under construction at the Shoppes at Warrenton mall on Veterans Memorial Parkway. Rural King was identified several years ago as an anchor store to help revitalize commercial traffic at the mall.
A specific date has not been identified for the store to open its doors, but a Rural King spokesperson said there will be several events to celebrate the week of the grand opening.
Rural King also is starting to recruit for job openings at the store. Several management positions are currently listed on the company’s recruitment website, www.rktalent.com.
Rural King sells livestock supplies, clothing, hardware and other items.
The company, which is based in Matoon, Ill., broke ground on the Warrenton location in May. The city of Warrenton has agreed to provide tax-based assistance to reimburse some of the development costs.
Warrenton’s Board of Aldermen in 2018 approved up to $5 million in tax increment financing (TIF) for Rural King. TIF is a system in which the developer fronts the cost for the project, then receives reimbursement out of new tax revenue that is generated as a result.
Some of the assistance from the city has been tied to Rural King meeting certain performance criteria at the new store, including demonstrating strong sales.
The possibility of bringing Rural King to Warrenton was one of the selling points for a second interchange in the city, just west of the mall, paid for by two half-cent sales taxes approved by voters in 2016. City officials intend for the interchange to provide better access to the mall and future development in the area.
